"Owning our desires should be neither embarrassing nor uncomfortable. Nor should they be subject to anyone else's moral judgement of what is right of wrong, good or bad, normal or abnormal. Because typically we are taught to put our needs aside and take care of others first, this kind of sexual confidence rarely comes naturally to most women...The result of hundreds of interviews, 'When the Earth Moves' is in more ways than one, a labor…

I am pretty normal. At least that’s my analysis after reading most of this book. Hart goes into incredible detail about female orgasms–how we have orgasms, the spiritual and psychic energy of an orgasm, female anatomy, and societal messages. This book encourages women to own their sexuality and explore orgasm and the many variations it can contain. I found most of the information helpful and interesting, although I can’t relate to psychic energy and Eastern thought, at least not yet.

Since I am one who has always had trouble reaching orgasm, I did appreciate that the book addressed non-orgasmic women but I think it should have gone further but perhaps that was not the intent. Women who orgasm easily, like the author, have trouble relating to what it’s like to struggle and the mental games that go on.

I didn’t finish this book. I had trouble with the way it was written, which, as a writer, is always a problem when one reads another writer! For overall information about the many facets of orgasm that you have never even thought about, I would recommend it. I didn’t find it helpful for my every day life, however.
